description
Area charts represent two dependent variables as filled areas span over a range with the dependent variable being the height of the areas.
Area charts are ideal to display probability distributions (as the areas naturally illustrate how the total volume is distributed) or temporal changes of volume like quantities (such as sales or debt). As such, the area chart assumes a strong relationship between the data points.
To keep them easily readable, they should be limited to a few number of areas.
